On my way home from work I am now able to call my PC on my mobile phone so that it starts up, connects to the internet, downloads my email and has my favourite web sites ready displayed and is playing music ready for me as soon as I come in, how? Read on.
In the motherboard BIOS there's a function called "Wake/Power Up On Ext. Modem" which is the key to the whole thing, it switches on when it gets a signal from the modem and to do that all I have to do is call the phone line my modem is connected to, it doesn't cost anything either as I just let it ring twice and hang up which is all it takes.
The other bits are easy, I just put shortcuts to the various things I want started into the Startup folder, web pages, playlists, etc. In the Bat I set it to download on startup on each account which in turn dials up my ISP to make a connection.
