Mother Earth

Peaceful as dew on the Earth's green, fresh grass,
Glinting in sunlight, whence not overcast;
The land comes to life with all creatures within,
Whilst birds in the trees make a wide varied din.

As crows high above give a raucous insistance,
We think: "Is there something to thank for existence?
For the hills, lakes and valleys, the plants and the trees,
The animals too; butterflies, birds and bees?

The sun, and the rain which both aid our survival,
Each has their own place, without killing it's rival";
Some say a supreme being gave these to us,
But here I disagree, without making a fuss.

The land where we live is our only supporter,
So cherish that place, like it's your only daughter;
For winds that carry seed for new germination,
And water and heat to create vegetation.

We're all born of Earth, you and I have to say,
So, when darkness falls at the end of the day;
Look up to the skies, at just one single star,
And ponder the question, "How lucky we are?"
