The CRYPT Mag

RSS

With all the information now available on the Internet, it is sometimes easy to spend a lot of time simply keeping up and reading it.

Thankfully, one of the easier ways to do this, has been catching on for some time.

The easy way to do it , is if your favourite news sites have a XML button or RSS. I know, you wondered what that was, didn't you?

I had a quick look on CNet and found a reader (free,of course) that handles this painlessly.

This is how it should look after installing it.............

As per usual, its a fairly simple installation procedure, simply double click on the exe file you downloaded.

Ok, a quick look at the preferences. Nothing to difficult to understand there.

And again, you don't need these explained, do you?

The program is exceedingly simple to use..............

so don't go looking for obscure meanings in the preferences, it does what it says on the tin!

Adding a channel is easy, simply click the “add” button and give it a title. Click the “next” and insert the url. Job done!

Of course, the same is true of the add a group part. You can sub group all your news into different folders.

Now some of the more eagle eyed amongst you may have noticed the way that the BBC technology channel was labelled. No, I didn't name it like that, cast your eye back to the preferences grab. See the bit marked “update title from channel” ? Yup, the name will be cast up by the channel itself.

You don't need to manually add the channel at all. If your news channel has a XML button or RSS button,  clicking on it while RSS reader is running will add it automatically.

Once you've finished adding all the channels you wish, its a matter of settling down to reading the headlines.

“Read more” loads the story into the browser and you can read the full story instead of just the headline. This allows you full control over your browsing. In fact, its more like the way you read the newspaper...........

Nice and simple! You can alter the update times in the preferences, and also alter how long it keeps the headlines etc etc.

I won't spend anymore time explaining this, download it and speed up the way you get your news.

An excellent little program!!
