Atitool

I run a Radeon X1950 Pro 256mb graphics card in my PC, which is fine for general day to day use, but when I run my favourite game Team Fortress 2 it tends to run very hot.

These are the sort of temperatures I was getting before I ran AtiTool

2008-09-12 18:20:05 I Temperature: GPU: 102.9°C
2008-09-12 18:20:15 I Temperature: GPU: 104.0°C
2008-09-12 18:20:25 I Temperature: GPU: 104.9°C

So someone in the game suggested I run AtiTool when playing, as it helps run the fans

at a higher rate which cools the card quite a bit. And it's FREE.

So I went to - http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool and downloaded the latest version.

This program does many things for your graphics card, but the part we want to look at is accessed

by clicking on "Settings" in the bottom right hand corner, which brings up this page.

You can then set the fan speed to whatever you prefer.

I like it to run dynamically based on the temperature.

Now instead of running at over 100c when I play it usually runs at around 85 - 90c

Which is a 20 degree reduction from a FREE program! Nice!

Obviously if you want it to run it cooler there are plenty of good fans etc. that are on the market.
