Q.Why do 3-D Glasses have red plastic on the left and blue plactic on the right? How does this make a 3-D picture appear? What would happen if you were colourblind?
A. We can see and judge three Dimensions (height, Width and Depth) because each of our eyes views the same object from a slightly different angle, The two perspectives can be processed by the Brain to Create images with Depth.
To make the Picture appear as 3-D the Same must apply A special camera takes two pictures of an object at the same time; from the same view point as each of our eyes would see it.
To give the illusion of Depth, each picture MUSt be seen by the it was intended for. This is where the Red & Blue filters come in. The Red plastic filters out Red Images, and the Blue filters out blue Images.
One picture is coloured red, the other blue, Consequently the eye looking through the red filter will only see the blue image and vice versa.
The Brain then combines the two seperate images, thinking that it is seeing the same object from two perspectives, and ceates a full three-diamentional image with the illusion of depth.
Colour blindness would effect the results, However modern methods of reproducing 3-D Images using polarising lenses allow the 3-D effect to be enjoyed by even those with colour defective vision.
