A new Browser

By Ian Urie

I'll admit it.
I'm a fan of Google Chrome.
However, much as it pains me, it's only available on Windows , so far.
I know Google is working on a linux version, but I wish they would hurry up.

chrome

There must be more people like me around who want it, though.
Those nice folk at codeweavers made a port of it for Mac and linux users
Of course, we always like to make it easier for folk, so clicking on the grab above will take you to the page.
Once you download and install the file, you now have Chromium, instead of Chrome as an available browser.
Let's have a quick look, shall we?

chromium

Amazingly enough (since it's a port of Chrome), it looks identical.

You can even go into "porn" mode as you can in the Windows version.

about

As you see, the version doesn't exactly make much sense as it's currently running under Mandriva 2009.1.
This has made me very happy.
Codeweavers have said they only made this to show it could be done.
I don't care, I find this a wonderful browser.
Very simple to use and it keeps my history available to find easily.
It isn't without flaws, however.
Since it is only an unstable beta, it does have a tendency to crash.

oh dear

This appears quite frequently on my system.
I have discovered that it will crash if I type in the address/search bar without clicking on any of my favourites first.
It also doesn't like the plug-in structure on my system either.
It tells me I don't have the latest flash player etc.
Be that as it may, I don't care.
It's sufficient until I get a native version.
Hurrah to codeweavers for giving me a version that does work.
