The Lincolnshire Amiga Group Meet On 25-04-2009.
------------------------------------------------

YEP, there ARE still AMIGA fanatics around!

Well as I am a member of LAG, (Lincolnshire Amiga Group), I decided to go to the meeting on the 24th April 2009. Several of the regulars were there and two I hadn`t met before, both named Steve...

Young Steve is around 20 years old and old Steve in his late 20s early 30s. I really should have asked their ages, but hey, I was more interested in the gear on display there... :)

This was young Steve`s A1200 and bits in skeletal form trying to get an accelerator board working...

(Click on the images for a larger version)

As you can see this was a Heath Robinson affair and after a short while was up and running even with the Spaghetti all around its skeletal remains. He was risking life :) and A1200 board with that lot but he was a man and he could handle it, sadly I sat next to him with my...

...cup of tea, awaiting pending electrocution, :) AND the Arduino Diecimila Development Board which I successfully got working with WinUAE. Gladly there is no photograph of plug ugly little me... :)

Sitting next to me was Gaz, he was showing off his MorphOS tool running Duke Nukem 3D...

We tried out some of my software on his machine but rather than work we proved that classic `emulation` was not the best and my software locked the machine a lot.

Old Steve came along with his AMIGA OS4.1 and it does look good on screen. It seems to work well too, although a two monthly meet is not enough to see the unit working under stress...

Next came Mark with his Mini HP machine of which he had successfully got a Beta version of Windows 7 working. This is pretty impressive by any standards and it ran fairly well. Good one Mark...

Sadly the photograph for Mark didn`t turn out to well, next time maybe.

Next on the agenda was `Terl`, I only know him as his handle `Terl`, I really should try and remember his name. He always brings AMIGA hardware that he has acquired and there were some bits here...

He asked me how to code in ARexx to read and write from and to memory so I uploaded an example to AMINET and gave to the club an earlier version of this upload. NOTE guys, that MEM-DUMP_AREXX.lha is now on AMINET and available for download OR read the other article for the
magazine. Boy can Terl rabbit or can he rabbit...
Talk about `Rambling Sid Rumpo` - jeez... :D

Robert was showing off his A1200 running `Gran Tourismo 4` and was near as good as just about anything today.

Sorry Robert, also no photograph you were part of the group with Mark on.

Last but not least was Mike, the gaffer, he sorts out the meeting place
which was at `The Graham Matthews Youth Centre` in Welton near Lincoln.
Sadly Mike was on the damaged photograph so no picture of him at this point in time but next time... >:)
I think this was Mike`s but no doubt he will chastise me next time we meet if I am wrong... :)

As you can see folks there are people who DO have serious bits of kit that can be all and singing all dancing but we prefer to gather together and play with ancient platforms purely for fun and relaxation.

When was the last time reinstalling `Windows whatever` for the nth time, either fun OR relaxing?

Cheers for now all.

I will write about my next visit in a few months time...

(C)2009, B.Walker, G0LCU.
