Ensure your skin is well moisturized before applying your make-up. You can apply a skin primer over your entire face just before you start with your make-up application. Primers are not greasy, but allow for a much smoother (less obvious) application of foundation – especially on mature skin, where fine lines and unevenness in skin becomes more obvious.
The more foundation you wear on your skin, the older it will look. Make-up cakes into fine lines on the skin. Liquid foundations work best if blended thoroughly and evenly.
Opt to wear a loose powder over your foundation. Loose powder sets your foundation in place and reduces the shine on the skin. Shine attracts light to the lines on your face and this illuminates them. A matte face is a fresher younger looking face. Compact powders are a thing of the past
they 'sit'heavily on the skin and look obvious.
If your face no longer holds much color, use a peachy or pinkie blusher on the apple of your cheeks to ‘lift life’ and color onto your face. You can also use a brighter lipstick shade.
If you have small lips, go brighter or lighter rather than darker. Darker will make your lips look smaller.
Never mix warm shades and cool shades. For example, you should not mix a pinkie lipstick shade with an orangey eye shadow shade. Opposites don’t harmonize on the face. Here are some inspiring examples:

Make sure you create the best frame for your eyes by shaping and defining your eyebrows.
Using matte eye shadows through the crease of the eyes creates a better illusion on maturing skin - shimmery eye shadow draws attention the fine lines on the eyes. If there is any puffiness through the crease of your eyes it will also be exaggerated by using shimmer over that area.
I often notice that women change their hair, accessories and clothing for an occasion, but not their make-up. Remember that make-up assists in completing the over all look and should be changed according to the look you are putting together.
When you are going to apply a natural make-up look, be sure to apply every stage of the application. Each product has a function and adds to the over all affect of your finished make-up look. For example, leaving out the foundation, concealer and powder part of the application will only make you look incomplete - as your skin won’t be evened out and your eye area won’t look as fresh without concealer and powder applied before your eye shadow. Concealer over the eyes helps to reduce the redness on a light skin and the darkness that appear around the eyes on a darker skin. If you are going to wear a dark lipstick, make sure you apply it with a lip brush, this will ensure a beautifully applied lip edge.
Using charcoal, black or chocolate brown eye shadow shades to create more dramatic 'smokey eyes'for glam make-up looks. Here is a step by step guide on how to achieve a smokey eye look: http://www.realwomenmakeup.com/tips_7.html
Creating a balance between eyes, cheeks and lips is important, if you apply smokey eyes don’t apply a dark lip shade and visa versa. Enhancing one area or the other.
Don’t hide behind your make-up. People should see you before they see your make-up. We all have flaws, you may think yours are worse than others because you are critical of yourself.
Forget about how you used to look, make the most of the way you look now. Opt for a fresh, healthy make-up look, rather than an over applied pasty application.
