Amiga to PC TCP Networking
via NULL-Modem Cable

Getting the Hardware

All you need is a NULL-Modem Cable.
It MUST be a NULL-Modem serial cable and not a normal one
And it must have connections to fit both Amiga and PC Serial ports

Getting the Software

Firstly you need Miami installed on your Amiga
Then goto Aminet and download NullTCP.lha
Once downloaded it should be un-archived and the MDMCISCO.INF file transferd to your PC.

For getting internet access on the amiga you will need a Proxy server on your PC.
I tried a few and settled for AnalogX Proxy
Just download the exe and run it.

Setting up the link

On the PC
Open up the Contol pannel on your PC and run the Modem configuration.
Select Add and use the 'Have Disk' feature to find your 'MDMCISCO.INF' file
Now you have the NULL-Modem set up on your PC

Once you have added the modem it is time to Add a Dialup in 'Dialup Networking'
Click on 'Make new connection'
Give it a name like Amiga or something and choose the 'Generic NULL Modem device.
Set the Phone number as 0 and then press finish

Now we are all done on the PC :)

Now on to the Amiga
Open up Miami, select Load... from the Settings menu
Select the Miami.default.null-modem file you unpacked from the NullTCP archive.

That's all for now (Enabling the socks server will be explained below in Setting up the Proxy)

Starting the connection

Now you have set up everything you sould be able to establish a connection.
If all went well , Miami should connect and you should get the little d.u.n icon in your pc system tray.

Now you have a connection you will want to do something with it.
To get internet / Email access on your amiga see the next paragraph Setting up a Proxy
To Transfer files using FTP see the final section Things you can now do

Setting up the Proxy Server

On the PC
For this i will explain how to use the above mentioned software AnalogX Proxy

After Downloading the exe just run it to install the software.
After installing it just run it.
Then click the new icon in the System Tray and select Configure
Make sure All the Services are enabled
To add email capability press the Configure Email Aliases button and add your pop/smtp details there.

Unfortunately emails are identified by their UserName so you cannot use the same username for a different domain.
Ie. bsteers@domain.com and bsteers@another.com could not both be used.

After configuring AnologX Proxy be sure to press OK to close the window and start the server as it is disabled while the configuration window is open.

Now on to the Amiga
Open Miami and select the Socks page
Enable SOCKS and enter the following info...
Server: 192.168.1.1 port 1080
Then Save the Settings

Now i will explain how to get AWeb working but the process is similar for Voyager and IBrowse.
Open up AWebs Network Settings
Goto Page 3 (Proxy)
Set the HTTP Proxy as http://192.168.1.1:6588
Then Change the Type to FTP and set it to the same address.

That's it for WWW access , you should now be able to browse the web on your amiga through your PCs connection.

To get YAM working (or any other emailer)
whatever accounts you are using set the POP3 AND SMTP addresses to 192.168.1.1

Things you can now do with your connection

Using FTP to do file transfers.
You need to install some FTP server software.
I found a good one on the PC was TypSoft FTP Server
And a good one on the Amiga is rc-ftpd
Whatever platform you install the server on , once installed and running you will need to set up a User and give the User Access to some folders on your drive
To access the Amiga From the PC you would enter the Server host as 192.168.1.2
To access the PC from the Amiga you would enter the server host as 192.168.1.1
